Day 2 - Creative & Artistic Challenge

Day 2 of Creative & Artistic Challenge

Image was taken at Elliston Park here in Calgary.  I was hoping for reflections but Mother Nature had a windy day in her plans.  So I had to come up with something else, I love the colors in the water and the placement of the rocks in the water.

Day 1 - Creative / Artistic Photography Challenge - Archway

A good friend of mine challenged me to Creative/Artistic Photography Challenge the other day.  And I thought that would be really cool to do, so I did!!

The Archway at Union Cemetery here in Calgary.  I play with it a bit to see what I could come up with and really liked the end result.

I challenged 2 of my friends to this challenge and look forward to seeing their creations.  Amanda & Ian!!

Will post Day 2, sometime, April 30.

Reader's Rock Garden

I went out this morning to see what I could find without a really specific path of where I was going. I ended up at Readers Rock Garden.  I love this little garden, love to see it change and grow and pass on in the fall to winter.  There is always something to see.

Today, the first thing I spotted was spring flowers or Crocus.

I found this story on a plaque in the garden.  I love stories like this.

How the Prairie Crocus Got its Fur Coat – A First Nations Legend

Wapee went on a vision quest, where, overwhelmed by loneliness, he was befriended by a Prairie Crocus. In response to the flower’s kindness, Wapee sheltered the flower from the cold each night. After the second night, the flower spoke, “Yesterday, Wapee, you were sad because you had been afraid. He who never knows fear is a fool. The wise man learns to overcome it.”

When the Morning Star looked out across the prairie the following dawn, the flower said, “You have a kind heart, Wapee. It will lead you to great things.”

Next night, still sheltered under Wapee’s robe, the flower said, “Wisdom and a gentle heart will make of you a great leader. But when you are bowed with troubles and cares, remember that on a nearby hilltop you will find peace and wisdom.”

Before going back to his people, Wapee said to the flower, “Little brother, three nights you have comforted me in my loneliness and brought me visions. Tell me now three of your wishes that I may ask the Great Spirit to grant them to you.”

The flower answered, “Pray that I may have the purple blue of the distant mountains in my petals, that men may seek my company and be rested. Second, let me have a small golden sun to hold close in my heart, to cheer me on dull days when the sun god is hidden. Last, let me have a warm coat, like your robe of fur, that I may face the cold winds that blow from the melting snow.”

The Great Spirit was pleased that Wapee's first thought had been for the flower and answered his prayers.

Prince's Island Park

Out for a walk on Tuesday, the weather was beautiful, so I can't waste the day inside.  I couldn't decide where I wanted to go but eventually come to a decision and ended up at Eau Claire, Peace Bridge and Prince's Island Park.

You can see spring coming, the birdies are busy, the green is greening and trees are blooming.

The Peace Bridge is interesting!! I have only been down once before and really need to go again and photograph it.

Everybody was out, walking, running and biking.  So I wasn't the only needing to enjoy the sun and perfect spring day.

This little chickadee and his mate was really busy eating whatever it was in the bush.  They didn't even care how close I got ... I think I was about 2 feet away and also long as I didn't get in the way of the food, they didn't care!! LoL :)

Still enjoying creating these little videos.  Getting a little better at it too!!

Out for a walk through Pearce Estate Park

Had a wonderful walk through Pearce Estate Park on Tuesday.  Beautiful day!!  All the little birdies were out!! Do you have any idea how noisy little birdies can be!! LoL :)

Still working on learning how to use view on my camera ... but I have a ways to go yet.  But I am having fun learning and experimenting.  There is some great potential for creativity!!

There was some great reflections at the park.  All of the ponds are now clear ice and can't wait to go back down there to take more images of the ponds once the trees all have leaves on them!!

And the cattails have all popped and I think they look so different and unique .. might just be me but hey!! :)

It was a great great to get for a walk!!

Waterton National Park

Taken from the top of the hill at the Prince of Wales Hotel, over looking Waterton valley and townsite.  It is awesome sight and well worth both the drive and walk!!

Watertown Lake is a mountain lake in Southern Alberta and Northern Montana.  The Northern, lower end of the main lake lies in Waterton National Park while the upper, southern part of the lake lies in Glacier National Park.

The Prince of Wales, overlooks Upper Waterton Lake and the Town of Waterton.  It was built between 1926 and 1927 by the Great National Railway.  The Hotel was named after King Edward VIII in hopes that he would stay at the hotel but in 1927, he decided to stay at a near by ranch.  The Prince of Wales is considered a National Historical Site.

Where the Mountains Meet the Prairies

Just before heading into Waterton National Park is a place that just blows my mind!!  It is "Where the Prairies meet the Mountains."  And it is quite true!!

It is still winter in this part of Alberta but the mountains make an incredible background.

How could one complain if they woke to this every morning.  There is some awesome beautiful in the  world and I am lucky enough to be able to visit it!!

Into the Crowsnest Pass!!

You know that tree ... the one in Crowsnest Pass?!?!  Yes, the Burmis Tree.  Its been around for 300 years.  Boy, can you imagine!!

Yes, It is still winter here in the mornings. Found this little along Highway 43, on the way to Elkford. I love icicles!!

As usually, the Butts have it!!  A lot of mountain sheep and whitetail deer everywhere!!!

The Roxy Theatre in Coleman, Alberta.  There are some great old mining towns all through the Crowsnest Valley.  Some great Alberta history all through.

Frank Slide, Crowsnest Pass, Alberta.  The destruction that occur is on such a massive scale that it is so overwhelming even after 100 years.
